UCLAN THESIS BINDING

As the meeting progressed I made some minor objection to paid representatives of Council not taking proceedings as seriously as volunteers. That I believe that Commuting students need representation due to time off Campus, that Men could have a rep due to high male suicide and health issues like Prostate cancer and Placement students need representation due to work Opportunities within courses. During proceedings I voted in favor of altering bylaws in order to streamline the Unions governance. I voted in favor of UCLan contributing towards thesis binding and printing for Postgraduate students and introducing British Sign Language as a taught language as part of the free languages program. I had also made preparations for my own item of agenda, I had prepared a statement for a policy I had proposed and dropped over the summer. Much was being prepared that had potential to change the Student Unions democracy, through changes of titles, bylaws and other implementations of new positions.

I voted in favor of UCLan contributing towards thesis binding and printing for Postgraduate students and introducing British Sign Language as a taught language as part of the free languages program. However it would strip School Presidents of their voting power, making them glorified Course Reps with no power and lots of responsibility. While the rationale was to be in line with the wider National Union of Students made sense, given the unique culture of UCLan. I voted in favor of communities replacing forums, and of a Placement Rep which this time was brought to council. I had also made preparations for my own item of agenda, I had prepared a statement for a policy I had proposed and dropped over the summer. I voted in favor of UCLan contributing towards thesis binding and printing for Postgraduate students and introducing British Sign Language as a taught language as part of the free languages program.

I prepared my statement but was not allowed to speak, it turned out that some in the Union binsing it best that I did not speak.

I made my complaint vinding as an email to the union, awaiting if any reply will come. I was pleased it passed and the person who proposed it was supported and not abused as this happened the last time it was proposed. I arrived as the School President of Business and Enterprise, a new re brand from the old Business and Management name. I had sustained abuse from this, thus why I dropped the motion.

Another rationale for this change was that Academic Reps outnumbered Liberation Reps.

I voted ginding the title name changes of the paid SAC officers as to me it seemed unnecessary bureaucracy. During proceedings I voted in favor of altering bylaws in order to streamline the Unions governance.

I spoke with three Liberation reps about this, to which they retorted that it was a University, it made sense they were outnumbered on council. While the rationale was to be in line with the wider National Union of Students made sense, given the unique culture of UCLan. Beyond that for now I am unsure. It felt very wrong I was not given a chance to explain and defend myself.

I did want the chance to explain my stance. However it would strip School Presidents of their voting power, making them glorified Course Reps with no power and lots of responsibility. I voted against the motion of introducing Faculty Reps, whilst this seemed a good noble idea in principle.
