HPSP PERSONAL STATEMENT

An individual with a three-year scholarship should be acutely aware of this stipulation, however, since a five year military residency such has surgery will translate into an added year of active duty plus a year in the reserves after the active duty commitment is complete–a nice deal for the AF since they only pay for three years of medical school. However, the second thing to know about retirement is that only a portion of your pay base pay will count when calculating your retirement benefits.

As far as the choice of station location is concerned, each person can rank his or her preferences for base assignments, but ultimately the decision is up to the AF. The CAC is essentially an official military license. That said, many residents still get the fellowship of their choice.
