The Research Student Administration page Thesis Submission and Examination gives a list of the forms you need to complete. This should be someone with a good research reputation in your field who can impartially assess your work. If there are to be more examiners, then your supervisor will discuss this with the Research Students Tutor. The original material is then hidden from the marker, either by not referencing it properly, by paraphrasing it or by not mentioning it at all. If the latter, then your degree certificate will be sent to your home address after the degree congregations. If the editing of a text together with a narrative constitutes the thesis then the wordage of the text should not be included in the wordage of the thesis.
Presenting your thesis
If your thesis is a contender, and has the support of the examiners, then it should be entered through the School – contact the Research Students Tutor. For many years theses had to be printed on one side only of the paper, but that rule has now been repealed. It should be adequately referenced.
Of your two final, permanently bound theses, one goes to Research Student Admin for the University Library. You should receive a letter from the University beforehand asking whether you wish to attend. Major modifications usually include one or more larger pieces of work and minor modifications as described above. In practice, the University will accept this form less than three months before you hand in your thesis but you may find that your viva will be delayed.
Guidance and downloadable forms are online. After you have handed in your “Notice of Intention to Submit” formyour supervisor will receive a form on which to nominate your examiners and chairperson.

When you submit your corrected thesis you must also submit a separate document giving a brief description of how you have completed each modification. Note submittlng the layout of your title-page as shown on page 5. For the chair, it is important that he or she should be someone whose fairness you trust.
Plagiarism is a form of cheating and is a serious academic offence.
There is no second chance for further major corrections. While you are making your modifications, keep in regular contact with your supervisor by sending a brief progress report each month.
A copy is placed in your School student file in case anyone needs to consult it.

Thesis binding at the University of Birmingham
Most supervisors will want to discuss the choice of examiners with their students and so you should raise the issue with your supervisor when you start to think about writing-up your thesis. This should be a member of staff who is not your supervisor or co-supervisor.

Permission is only granted in exceptional circumstances and you are advised to discuss sjbmitting with your supervisor at an early stage.
You should receive an email from the University telling skbmitting the deadline for these; the deadline will be about a month before the graduation ceremony. Take two copies of your thesis and your forms to the Print Me digital shop or use the online thesis binding page and they will bind your thesis for you for a modest charge.
These rights generally belong to the student, but if your theesis is considered to be commercially significant students may be required to assign their rights to the University.
