Looking for tips on photography as fas as getting someone to pose for you?
I’ve been doing photography for a good while now but I still struggle looking for the right poses I now that sounds weird but I’m always looking for more knowledge on photography I’m open to any and all tips.

The only tip I can give you is this; Usually my best photos happen by accident.
I try and try to make something look a certain way and then when I’m just about to give up it happens. When working with someone else ( a model) it’s very difficult to get them to do what needs to be done because you have this idea in your head and your trying to make it come to fruition and most of the time they can’t understand it. Just be patient. Wish you luck!
I would suggest you buy a posing guide. With enough practice you will learn to direct the models, but even then it is sometimes difficult when they get confused about left and right, or get nervous and move entirely out of the position you were trying to get them to. Having a picture similar to what you would like gives you a good starting point then you can adjust or invent from there. Models like to look at the pictures for ideas and will give you feedback on they like.
i hope to be a photographer when in the future, and from what i’ve personally learned about taking pictures of people is that the best pictures are not posed.
i usually take pictures at social gatherings and a lot of the time the best pictures of regular people come out when they’re not posed. but if they ask for a picture and pose, then that’s fine too. it’s for them, afterall.
but if you’re a photographer who’s job is to do posed pictures like glamour shots and stuff, then try looking through magazines and photography books and look for poses you could try to re-create. try looking through your favorite photographer’s photo’s and look for techniques you could try, and poses you could use.
i feel, the only way to express yourself in photography is to experiment with what you want. make what you see in your mind come to life, and caputre it in a photograph.
Join websites like modelmayhem.com and look at the pro’s photos on there to get some inspiration. Join their forums and ask questions, read everything you can… and most important of all, practice.
Pay attention to posing that you see in photos that you admire. Purchase some good books on posing. ( I like some of Jeff Smith’s books, as a general guide to get you started.)
Also, study design elements. It’s much easier to visualize posing when you have an idea of circles and triangles, rule of thirds, leading lines, and other elements.
Also, it never hurts to practice, and seriously evaluate what you have done. Go back and look at shots that you posed, and think about what would look better, what is distracting, what you would change if you could do it again. You’ll improve with time.
When I started over 20 years ago, I had the same problem. After attending some seminars at local, national and international forums I was able to work better at posing. Learned most of my posing from the great Monte Zucker and Heidi Mauracher. Posing by example works best for me. Quickly stand in the location where you would like to photograph them and show the pose to them. Have your client mimic your pose and most of the work is done.
